Apple recently released a dedicated app for finding and listening to podcasts.  It was only a matter a time since they already separated video from audio track.  Does the new iPhone podcast app live up to the many available in the iTunes app store?  The short answer is no.

The podcast app is a solid first effort. It features a rewind and fast forward feature. You can display by cover art or by list of your subscriptions.  All the features for controlling downloading and syncing are available for each podcast.  You an control the speed of your podcast.  There is even a sleep function that will allow you to fall asleep while listening to your favorite podcast.

The app is not without limitations or problems  I am finding it sluggish to the point of unusable. I will press a button and the app will not respond.  By the time the app responds, I have hit the button several times.  The app lack the ability to make playlists. You cannot add podcasts by RSS feeds.  It would be nice to be able to skip from the lock screen. I also do not like how they put all shows with The under T. So The Adam Carolla show is under T’s not A. (There is a joke there some where.)  The reel to reel design out dates almost everyone using an iPhone.

Eventually it will be a great app but not right now.
