About

Philosopher of Life, Renaissance Woman, Whovian, & contributor for many websites…some of them have Nerd in the title….

History

I have wanted to do a podcast for a long time. On September 22, 2011 I have finally made like a Nike ad and just started it.   The first episode of DiHard Podcast was released October 8th, 2011.

I  explore philosophical nature of Nerd Culture. What is it?  Can it be separated from the concept of “mainstream” culture? Since mainstream culture seems to be embracing nerd culture, what does that mean for mainstream as well as nerd culture? Nerd culture’s influence on “main stream” culture  it is a great opportunity for nerd culture to redefine old stereotypes.  The major stereotype is that nerds are male.  Can Nerd Culture redefine gender roles? Can Nerd Culture redefine any preconceived notion?

I’ve also view the podcast as a way toward self discovery though the examination of nerd and popular culture.

DiHard Podcast presents “Walking the Nerdist Way” are episodes focused on Chris Hardwick’s book the Nerdist Way.  It’s a weekly motivational podcast to help you get an maintain the enthusiasm you got from reading The Nerdist Way. It is amazing how that inspiration can fade over time.

If he can turn his life around, anyone can! (He’s said so himself!)

Mission Statement or Why I Podcast

I will believe that I deserve good things.  I will make it a habit of putting my artly creations out into the wild no matter what.  I do this so that my fellow Nerds will be inspired to do the same.  Creating things and sharing them with our fellow humans feeds our soul and makes our existence joyful.  Life is too short not to have joy in it. (Modified and added from The Nerdist Way by Chris Hardwick)

The podcast has an editor/sound guy/co-producer: When the podcast sounds good, it’s because of  Bentley Michaels! He is the mastermind behind the awesome Nerdtitan.com website. He also has the great podcast Thinking Thoughts. He is super talented! Go check out all the wonderful things he makes.

Join me as I talk to incredible interesting people from Chris Hinkson, Nathan Suher, Chris Hardwick, Travis Richey and MORE!  I love hearing about people’s creative process.  These were incredible fun conversations. I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoyed recording them!

Remember to check out http://lovemakeshare.ca/ I publish the DiHard Podcast there. Trevor Laforce is the genius who gave me my avatar! Be More Awesome with Jes Lacasse is one of my new favorite podcasts.

A very special thanks to Bentley Michaels for helping me with my sound.  If my podcast sounds great it is because he did the mixing!  He has two podcast of his own that are amazing.  In Thinking Thoughts he interviews interesting people as well as ponders the universe.  The 45 Parallel deals with the strange and mysterious!  Go HERE for more information about this multi-talented voice over actor and sound god.

Finally, the story behind “Have an EXCELLENT!” Helen “Nonnie” Plummer was a very lovely woman. She worked at CVS near the University of Rhode Island.  She was always friendly and helpful.  She really gained notoriety though her famous saying “Have an excellent.”  She wanted people to make up their own minds as to the thing that they wanted to have an excellent.  She touched so many lives.  It goes to show, you don’t have to be famous to make an impact on the world.  I have adopted her signature saying as a way of keeping her spirit alive.  R.I.P Helen M. Plummer
(August 26, 1946 – April 7, 2014)  Helen M. Plummer Obituary

In my days at URI both as a student and as a staff member, I remember seeing her and she ALWAYS had a smile, a friendly hello, and of course, “an excellent…” At first I thought her catchphrase was different, but later I understood it was the best of wishes for all you wanted. She was truly a sweet woman and will sincerely be missed and remembered. RIP Nonnie, someone who made the world a better place in her own way.
